Straight branches make good poles and supports, while suitable pieces of wood can be carved into simple camp tools and projects.<\/p>\n<p>Ash is also an excellent tree for woodland identification activities. Look for its distinctive black buds, opposite branching pattern and bunches of winged seeds known as ash keys.<\/p>\n<p>When collecting wood, use only fallen, dead or legally permitted material and avoid damaging living trees.
